You have plenty of options when it comes to routines to help you stay hydrated from special face washes to simply drinking more water. However, life is busy and it can be easy to slip out of a routine when you’re stressed about work, school, or any number of things. In addition, buying countless products be quite straining on the budget of the average person.

This doesn’t mean you have to give up hope, though, because we are going to help you find exactly what you need. Actually, we suggest that you use a hydration technique that you can take with you anywhere you go. A solution like this would allow you to quickly add some hydration to your skin no matter if you are in the office, a lecture hall, or even on the way to pick your kids up from school.

That is why today we are recommending that you take a look into the idea of a hydrating mist. We will get more into exactly what these hydrating mists are soon but for now, they are a quick spray that easily fits in a purse or pocket and you simply spritz it on your face for some moisture. However, we won’t just leave you to find one all on your own. Recently recommended to the world by one Kim Kardashian, today we are going to take a look at the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist.

What is a Hydrating Mist?

Before we get into Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist, though, we need to take a look at what a hydrating mist is. If you haven’t heard the phrase hydrating mist before, you might have heard of it under names such as purifying water, refreshing spray, or even flower water.

While some people may look at them as a vanity product for a fresher face, they actually do a lot of good. The obvious benefit is that it - as the name suggests - helps to keep your skin hydrated. However, the best options for hydrating mists also include vitamins and minerals that will nourish your skin when you use it as well.

Why Should You Use a Hydrating Mist?

So, you know what a good hydrating mist should offer but what does that mean? What do you get out of using a hydrating mist? After all, many people don’t use a hydrating mist and unless you tend to follow current trends in beauty, you may not have even heard of it before. However, there are plenty of reasons that you should incorporate dewy skin mist into your routine.

tatcha luminous dewy skin mist

First, let’s go over the obvious. These mists can keep your face from drying out which not only causes your skin to flake and peel but it can cause acne as well. Dry skin can also exacerbate conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. You should consider this if - like many of us - you don’t drink quite as much water as you should. However, it can even be a refreshing and helpful spritz when you are trying to look your best on a hot summer day.

We have already mentioned the fact that this is a beauty product. If you are wondering how a hydrating mist can help more than just your skin but your makeup as well, we are going to explain it to you. If you use a hydrating mist as a base, you will most likely find that your foundation is easier to spread on your face and you will have a more natural finish on it, rather than a cakey or oily appearance.

Speaking of oily skin, this is another way that you can help the production of oil in your face lessen. Many of us with oily skin have tried many things from carrying rice paper with us to use as needed to very literally “powdering our noses”, it is easy to give up hope for fighting the excessive oil on our faces.

Not to fear, though, because you can use a hydrating mist to help you out. As we have talked about, a hydrating mist is more than just a quick spray of water. While a hydrating mist will, of course, hydrate your face, it will also absorb any excess oils from your face.

If there is anything that anyone who has ever had even the slightest experience with makeup knows that as the day goes on, your makeup can lose some of its appeal. Of course, though, we don’t always have time to touch up our makeup in the middle of the day. With a quick spray of a hydrating mist, however, you can brighten your look a bit in a pinch.

If you are interested in reaping the benefits of aromatherapy some people will recommend certain hydrating mists. Of course, this varies from product to product depending on the ingredients, but if you can find one with essential oils, you can reap different benefits depending on the oils in the formula. While this method of aromatherapy isn’t quite the same as incense in your room or a bath with scented candles but it can work when you're short on time or if you need some relaxation in the middle of your day.

Who Shouldn’t Use a Hydrating Mist in Their Routine?

One of the best things about hydrating skin mists is that they can be used by everyone, regardless of their skin type. We have already gone over that it can hydrate dry skin and help by absorbing oils when it comes to oily skin. If you have combination skin, you are especially in luck since you can reap both these benefits to balance your skin.

However, we do have one point of advice for this type of product. If you have particularly sensitive skin, make sure to check the ingredients for any allergies or irritants that you might have.

If you are concerned, you can do a patch test just like any of your other beauty supplies. To do this, you will need to put a small dab of the dewy hydrating mist on your jawline. Leave it there for a few hours and if you have no reaction, you are safe to use it. If you have a bad reaction, of course, the product may contain something that you are allergic to.

Who is Tatcha?

Before we get into the product that Tatcha offers, you should know who you are buying from. To grossly oversimplify and give you an idea of what you are dealing with, Tatcha is born from a marriage between the beauty ideas of Japan and the lifestyle of California.

Tatcha was started by a woman named Victoria Tsai but to truly understand the company, we have to look back before the company began. Instead, we are going to start with Victoria Tsai quitting her corporate job but taking her knowledge of what you can and can’t use on your skin with her.

To further her knowledge and to get away from the chemicals of many beauty products. This new knowledge came to her from a modern-day geisha in Kyoto, Japan. This geisha taught Tsai several age-old Japanese traditional tricks and tips for beauty. The most important lesson that she taught Tsai was that when it comes to skincare; less is more.

What Tsai learned from the geisha and one of the oldest beauty books in the world she took and added to the knowledge she had from working in the San Francisco corporation. Instead of chemicals, though, this HADASEI-3. HADASEI-3 is described by Tatcha as a combination of 3 superfoods common to Japanese cuisine. These foods were a part of the traditional, original geisha diet and included green tea, algae, and rice.

When it comes to the modern-day version of these beauty methods, Tatcha has researchers and scientists in both Kyoto, Japan and in San Francisco, California. Tsai herself splits her time between the two of these to oversee development and make sure that these ingredients are being modified as little as possible without being any less effective than it should be.

What is Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist?

This particular product from Tatcha is a liquid spray-on moisturizer. Among its ingredients - which we will go over shortly - is a mix of many natural ingredients including Tatcha’s custom ingredient, HADASEI-3.

Tatcha advertises that their dewy skin mist is perfect for a bit of soothing hydration. Of course, this is especially useful when you are on the go as it is a small bottle that only takes seconds to apply.

What is the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist Made Of?

Tatcha says they only use completely natural ingredients in their products. However, it is always best to make sure for yourself that what you are looking at buying is what you are promised. In addition, it is also important to check and make sure that you don’t have any sensitivity or allergies either.

On the other (brighter) hand, though, you should also look at the ingredients for the benefits as well. Many ingredients are included to help your skin in some way but it is also important that you understand what you are being offered just as much as you understand any dangerous ingredients.

The first thing that you need to do is learn what ingredients are in the product you are using. When it comes to Tatcha, they are very upfront with their ingredients list which is a good sign in our eyes. We have listed the ingredients for you below.

● Water

● Glycerin

● Squalane (Olive Origin)

● Cyclopentasiloxane

● Propanediol

tatcha mist

● Triethylhexanoin

● Camellia Japonica Seed Oil

● Inositol (Rice Extract)

● Algae Extract

● Sericin (Silk Extract)

● Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract

● Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil

● Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract

● Chondrus Crispus (Red Algae) Extract

● Panax Ginseng Root Extract

● Royal Jelly Extract

● Zizyphus Jujuba Fruit Extract

● Thymus Serpyllum (Thyme) Extract

● Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract

● Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate

● PPG-5-ceteth-10 Phosphate

● Trideceth-12

● Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate

● Sorbitan Stearate SE

● Fragrance (Natural)

● Sodium Hyaluronate

● Alcohol

● Phenoxyethanol

Before we get into what these ingredients mean to us and which ones are important, Tatcha makes a point to list the common ingredients that other companies use that they have not included in their formula. The list below has each item that Tatcha identifies as not one of their ingredients.

● Parabens

● Mineral Oil

● Synthetic Colors

● Synthetic Fragrances

● Sulfate Detergents

● Urea

● DEA

● TEA

● Phthalates

The ingredients that are not included are - individually, at least - unimportant in their usual function. Generally, though, this helps to limit any damaging chemicals from coming into contact with your skin. In addition, the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist is also sulfate-free, so anyone with a sulfur allergy would be safe to use it.

To start off, we are going to look over the ingredients that Tatcha specifically highlighted and explained on their website. This way, you can get a general idea for the main ingredients that go into your product.

Camellia oil is the first highlighted ingredient and its main purpose is to moisturize your skin without adding a feeling of extra weight or a film on your face. This oil is rich in vitamins A, B, D, and E while holding more antioxidants than most naturally-occurring antioxidants. You can also find nourishment from the Omega 3, 6, and 9 found in this ingredient.

The next ingredient Tatcha talks about is rice bran, which is listed above as Inositol or rice extract. Specifically, this is a Japanese rice bran that is known more commonly as komenuka. Once again, you can expect moisturizing and nourishment from this ingredient thanks to vitamins A, B2, B12, and E. You can also thank a variety of antioxidants and proteins as well.

Up next, we have red algae extract. Okinawa Red Algae actually makes up a part of Tatcha’s HADASEI-3 formula. It works to trap moisture but this ingredient is far more than just a moisturizer. In fact, the polysaccharides in Okinawa Red Algae are good for strengthening the natural barrier on the skin that keeps harmful particles out.

Silk has always been associated with riches and good looks. However, it usually isn’t our first thought when it comes to our cosmetics. Silk extract, though, is included in this dewy skin mist to help improve the elasticity and strength of your skin. This works because you are benefitting from antioxidants and amino acids that are naturally in the extract. If you are interested in where this silk is coming from, don’t worry; Tatcha uses a company that has been in business since 3500 B.C.E., so they’ve had plenty of time to perfect their process.

Next, we will look at the licorice root extract. Again, this is an age-old solution to a common problem but it isn’t necessarily an ingredient we think of when we look at our cosmetics although you may find it if you look closely enough at the ingredients on some of your other bottles. The key in this ingredient is the glycyrrhizate that it is full of which helps with hyperpigmentation. This way, you will have an even skin tone without worry for melanin deposits stressing you out.

Green tea is another ingredient that we know well for its healing properties whether we are ingesting it directly or applying it to our faces to soak into our skin. The specific antioxidant that we are concerned with in green tea though is Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG). This antioxidant is extremely powerful and with Tachta’s careful extraction methods, it retains 12 times more potency than some other companies.

One of the first words that we see on this ingredient list - excluding water - is glycerin. While this is a common ingredient in skin care products, we thought it would be wrong to simply overlook it. This ingredient helps to keep the skin moisturized by helping the skin draw water from the air.

Speaking of water, the fact that it is the first listed ingredient on the list is a good sign. If you didn’t know already, a list of ingredients is typically listed from the most present to the least present ingredient. The higher up water is, the more there is instead of a chemical.

While on the subject of the ingredient list, at the bottom we see alcohol. This is probably the only complaint we have since alcohol does dry out your skin. To be fair, though, as it is so far down on the ingredient list, you don’t have to worry about it too much. Tatcha also uses far less alcohol than their competitors.

Who is the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist Made For?

As we mentioned before, there is a hydrating mist for everyone; even those with oily skin can find a product that will absorb the extra moisture on your skin as well. However, not every product is made for everyone. Before you buy Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, you need to know if it will work for you.

If you have dry skin or combination skin, this might be just the thing you have been looking for. Unfortunately, if you have oily skin, you might have trouble with this product. Some customers have had success despite their oily skin but Tatcha doesn’t recommend the product for use by those looking to “dry up” their face.

If you have a sulfur allergy it can be extremely difficult to find cosmetic products that are safe for you to use since many companies use sulfate products as an ingredient in their cosmetics and even face washes. The Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, on the other hand, has no sulfate products. This means that even those extremely sensitive to sulfur won’t get any negative reaction from using this product.

How Do You Use Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist?

As we covered earlier, there are many times throughout the day that you can use your hydrating mist spray. If you want to hydrate your skin before your makeup to get a more even spread with your foundation, you can do that. On the other hand, if you want to finish your makeup off with a nice, dewy finish, there is no problem with that either. You can even apply it again throughout the day if you need to.

Whenever you use it, though, there are certain steps that you need to take to get the most out of this dewy skin mist. First, make sure to shake the bottle lightly to make sure none of the mixture has settled since you last used it. As you are getting ready to spray this, make sure the bottle is about 6 inches away from your face. You will only need 1 or 2 spritz to get the luminous, moisturizing hydration that you are looking for.

What Makes Tatcha Mist Different from Other Dewy Skin Mists?

Believe it or not, the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist actually has a massive leg up on the competition. While this may seem like a niche product, there is competition to found for this cosmetic. Think about other hydrating skin mists you have tried. Most likely, you felt a cool and refreshing sensation the minute you used it but found your face dry not much later.

The standard formula of water, alcohol, and usually synthetic fragrance cause this drying out and long-term damage. While these cool your skin down immediately, none of these main ingredients tend to lead to long-lasting moisture.

The drying out of your skin is mostly caused by the alcohol and synthetic fragrance. Alcohol will absorb the moisture in your skin and most chemical fragrances will have the same effect. While the water may help, the ingredients it's paired with will almost definitely cancel them out.

Tatcha, on the other hand, stays true to the idea that a hydrating mist should, well, hydrate your skin. As such, they change up the traditional formula but they do, in fact, keep water at the top of their list. When it comes to fragrances, though, they keep their dewy skin mist natural and the alcohol levels as low as possible.

However, Tatcha doesn’t end there. In addition to the edits to the traditional script for hydrating mists, Tatcha adds ingredients that other companies don’t. Remember all those natural moisturizing ingredients we discussed earlier? When it comes to Tatcha’s competition, you aren’t likely to find many companies who offer the same benefits with their products.

Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist and Endorsement by Kim Kardashian

You don’t need a degree in marketing to know that if a popular celebrity claims their love for a product then the market for that item nearly skyrockets. This effect is furthered when it is backed by a makeup artist that helps that star get ready.

Tatcha experienced this when Kim Kardashian listed Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist as one of her favorite beauty products in her long and tedious daily makeup routine. Once she said that her makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, stated that he also loved the product.

A year prior to Kim Kardashian’s praise of the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist, more of the family came forward to support it. Namely, a shout-out from Kylie Jenner - who is now known for her sometimes famous, sometimes infamous makeup line - after a Sephora trip.

The Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist got most of its screen time in a video that Kim Kardashian made describing her daily makeup routine. If you want to check it out, we will leave the link for you to see it here. However, make sure you have some time set aside if you really want to learn Kim Kardashian’s makeup routine because it is intense with over 50 distinct steps to get from a bare face to her infamous looks.

Can You Use This Dewy Skin Mist with Makeup?

As we talked about before, hydrating mists can be used to set foundation, to help provide a smooth and beautiful finish after you do your makeup, or even if you just need a quick refresh throughout the day. However, it is important to always make sure that the product you are using is meant to be used with makeup. Otherwise, you might end up finding out when you are already 10 minutes late for work and redoing your makeup.

Lucky for us, though, the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist is able to be used with any makeup we could dream up. When you look this product up on Tatcha’s website, it even tells you that you can use this product before or after your makeup at your discretion without causing your makeup to run or wipe off easier.

Is Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist Expensive?

Unfortunately, price seems to be the biggest downside to the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. There are 2 different sizes that you can purchase for this dewy skin mist and these are full size and travel size options.

If you wanted to invest in the full bottle of the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, you have a few options. You can either make a one time purchase or you can set your order to automatically renew every 30, 60, 90, or 120 days. Tatcha does, however, recommend every 60 days with this size if you are planning on renewing your order automatically. No matter how you order, though, a full 1.35 fluid ounces (or 40 mL) will run you at least $45 before any extra fees such as shipping.

If a travel size is more what you are looking for, don’t worry, Tatcha offers this as well! Unlike the full size option, though, you won’t be able to renew the order automatically as they only offer a one-time purchase. At less than half the size of the standard bottle, the travel bottle comes in at 0.4 fluid ounces (12 mL). One of these small bottles will run you around $20 before any extra charges such as shipping are added.

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist and Room to Read

tatcha dewy skin mist review

One of the best things that Victoria Tsai brought to her new company was her empathy and giving heart. Rather than the “corporate greed” we seem to hear so much about in recent times, Tsai runs Tatcha with a fantastic amount of philanthropy.

When Tsai started Tatcha, she wanted everyone who used her products to know that beauty is about more than just what you put on your face or what you wear on your body. Instead, she wanted everyone to know that beauty starts in the heart and in the To do this, she partnered with Room to Read to fund a day of school.

If you aren’t sure what Room to Read is, let’s take a moment to explain this non-profit organization. Room to Read is a non-profit that works to give children an education when they can’t afford or receive one on their own. The name of the company comes from their belief that an education can take a child far in the world. This comes both in the literal sense and the fact that more opportunities will open up for them if they can get an education to back up any future job applications or even save to go to college eventually.

As of right now, Read to Room has big ideas and big goals. Their current goal is to “invest in the lives of at least 15 million children by 2020”. In their current statistics, Room to Read invests in nearly a million children per year, so they should be able to reach their goals with a little help.

Room to Read also works in many different countries with focuses on areas with low income specifically. They will help all the children they can through primary school and - to try and improve gender equality in the world - secondary school for young women.

This, of course, is probably - at least, in part - is a cause for the company’s high prices on their products. However, if you can afford to purchase their products, you will know that the profits they make are at least going to a good cause.

While they may not be one of Room to Read’s highest contributing partners, they still do good work. When it comes to charity, giving what you can is just as good. Every little bit helps, so even if Tatcha is a growing company, giving what they can is still a great help to the Room to Read program as well as an extremely good cause for them and you to support.

Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist: The Good

Before we make our final decision, it is only fitting that we go back over the main facts that we have about the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist. There are, of course, pros and cons to this product just as any other. So, we are going to take this section to dedicate solely to the good that we know about the product to make things a little easier to compare side by side.

First, let’s take a look at the formula of the dewy hydrating mist itself. Contrary to their competition, Tatcha is focused on using as many natural ingredients as possible and they use alcohol as an ingredient extremely sparingly. This means that we can trust that this hydrating mist will do exactly what it’s supposed to do; keep your skin hydrated.

Next, let’s take a look at the company itself. Not only has the founder, Victoria Tsai, created a successful and effective brand but she has made the company in the same altruistic spirit she has. As customers, we get to know that part of our money is going to a better purpose which almost justifies the price. In addition, this isn’t advertised on the website's main page, only mentioned in their “About Us” section. This gives us the feeling that the company truly cares and isn’t just doing it to increase sales.

Finally, the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist can be used with our makeup, whenever we want. More than just that, though, it is easy to use and we can take it out at anytime! Whether our skin is dry or we just need a quick touch up, the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist is an excellent hydrating mist for the job.

Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist: The Bad

Unfortunately, no product is perfect and this one is no different. We have gone over some of our favorite things about the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist in the above section. However, in this section, we will be looking at what this product left to be desired.

First of all; the price. One of our biggest points of contention with the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist is how expensive it is. While it may not be outrageously expensive, it is hard to justify spending $45 on 12 fluid ounces of this hydrating spray. The only way that we can find to make up for this is the idea that some profits will go to Room to Read to help underprivileged children get the education they deserve.

Another, slightly smaller complaint is that the formula for the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist does contain some alcohol. We do concede that it isn’t a lot of alcohol as it is far down on the list of ingredients. On the other hand, though, we wonder why an ingredient that would dry out skin would be included in a hydrating mist at all.

Overall, though, there isn’t much that we can complain about with Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist and how well it works. It doesn’t work as a standalone routine to keep your skin hydrated - meaning that you still have to wash your face and take care of it - but it definetely helps. Our biggest and primary complaint is the price. After all, not everyone can afford to spend $45 on their new bottle of Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, especially when they only get 12 fluid ounces of the formula. However, one of these bottles is supposed to last 60 days. So, if your bottle lasts you this long and you only have to pay $45 every 2 months, it isn’t as bad even though it is still a little steep.

Conclusion: Is Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist Worth the Money?

tatcha skin mist

When it comes to the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, we have slightly mixed feelings. To make our final decision on the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist a little clearer, let’s break it up a bit. First, we will look at why we would recommend this product and then we will go over an exception to that ruling.

Looking strictly at how this hydrating mist performs, we would most definitely recommend the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. Unlike other brands and their hydrating mists, Tatcha doesn’t have much alcohol in it and the fragrance is natural instead of synthetic. In addition to not using these ingredients, Tatcha also adds plenty of natural moisturizers - such as silk extract - that help to heal and restore moisture to your skin.

The only reason that we wouldn’t recommend it is because it is an expensive product. While they do give to Room to Read, sometimes we just can’t afford the extra cost. That being said, if you do have the money to try this product, we suggest you do. Even if you end up thinking it's not for you at least you know some of your purchase will be going to people who need it.

So, if you have the money to spend and you want a good hydrating mist, we completely recommend this product - it is fantastic. However, if you are looking to find a hydrating mist on a budget, this probably isn’t the hydrating mist for you.
