Good to see you here. I hope you are ready to read an unbiased and non-sponsored review of Olay Regenerist. If you also want to see real before and after results of Olay Regenerist, you'll find those here too.
The oil of Olay product isn’t what it used to be. Over the years the brand has changed and reinvented itself, claiming new and improved formulas. One of their newest and most raved about products is the Olay Regenerist Serum.
With all the money spent on advertising and marketing, it stands to question whether Olay Regenerist is actually worth the time, money, and effort. Before you run to the store to buy your own Olay Regenerist Serum, though, let’s take a closer look at what this company and their product has to offer.
Who is Olay?
Before Olay was started, many of the facial moisturizers that were available weren’t very effective. In addition, they had a thick and unfortunate texture, making it so that not many people really wanted to use them.
Olay is a company that was born in South Africa in 1949. The creator of the company was a chemist named Graham Wulff. At this point, the term Oils of Olay was used instead of simply Olay – that came later. For now, they had a moisturizer in a glass vial that held a lot of promise.
As time went on, the name was shortened to Olay as we know it today. This was done to give the brand a more modern feel to attract new, younger customers along with the older ones that had been buying from them for years. They didn’t change their goals, though, which was to provide their customers with the healthiest, most radiant skin.
Since then, Olay has developed its line into a menagerie of products all made to nourish, hydrate, and heal your skin. With every new development, they have improved the formula to allow for better and more thorough treatment to help rid your face of signs of aging and add in nutrients to keep it healthy and young.
What is Olay Regenerist?
Olay Regenerist is one of the more recent developments in the Olay brand line as it made its debut in 2003. It features over 27 products in all but Olay Regenerist Serum is hands down a fan favorite as well as one of the most well-known products in the line.
We will go into detail on all the promises Olay makes about Olay Regenerist Serum shortly but first, we’d like to take a look at what it’s supposed to do for you. The main purpose of using this serum by Olay is to help with the effects of aging. This includes fine lines and wrinkles, of course, but there are other side effects to Father Time as well. Your skin isn’t as tight and resilient as it once was, for example, and needs help to get back to that same elasticity that it once had.
The Olay Regenerist line is here to be that help for you. Just as you used special face creams and washes as a teenager to keep your skin clear, it’s time to treat yourself once more.
With the use of this product, you should be able to get your looks and your confidence back.
That is, if it works as well as is promised.
What If You Don’t Like Olay Regenerist?
A fair question is that, if at the end of the day you don’t like Olay Regenerist Serum? Well if you made your purchase between June 1st of last year and June 30th of this year and you aren’t satisfied, Olay is offering a full, money-back guarantee. This way, you know that your purchase during this period is safe and protected from any potential defects in the product itself or how the serum works for you.
How Does Olay Compare to Its Competitors?
With so many cosmetic products available on the market it can be difficult to assess which of these is the best choice. Not only in which is the most useful but which of these companies will offer you the biggest bang for your buck. Luckily, Olay is considered one of the best brands in the business.
When it was evaluated by Brand Finance, this was found to be one of the top companies above even other popular brands such as Neutrogena. This goes beyond just the net worth of the company, though, but the value it delivers its customers as well.
What are the Claims for Olay Regenerist by Olay?
When purchasing a beauty product, it is important to know what the company promises of its item. This information can be used as the basis of your comparisons - which is especially important since reviews can conflict with one another. However, it is also important to remember that this information is being written by the company to sell a product - while they may not lie, exaggeration is a useful marketing tactic.
Olay markets its Regenerating Serum as a “light gel face moisturizer with advanced anti-aging ingredients for visibly smoother skin starting day one.” The brand’s website also states that after only four weeks of use, the skin’s appearance is firmer and the appearance of lines and wrinkles are improved.
Olay further promises that when you use these products, they won’t leave a greasy or tight feeling behind because they absorb into your skin quicker than other cosmetic products. This promise tells you to look for real customers’ stories as to if they and how long it took for them to see results.
Olay and the Amino-Peptides
One of Olay’s main marketing focuses is the use of amino-peptides in their formula for the Olay Regenerist Serum. When it comes down to it, though, are they helpful like Olay promises? Well, let’s take a look because the answer isn’t quite so cut and dry.
First, let’s look at what an amino-peptide is in general. These are building blocks for your skin. They make up the proteins that make and shape you. So, it only makes sense that Olay promises that the use of these building blocks to manipulate your wrinkles and fine lines to a smoother surface.
However, that isn’t quite how it works. Amino-peptides do work at the foundation of your skin, making it more revitalize and help with the resilience of your skin.
It isn’t a miracle worker, though, and you shouldn’t expect the drastic results that Olay leads you to believe in.
So, to answer the question we prompted earlier as to the efficiency of this ingredient the answer is no. While these amino-peptides are useful in anti-aging and skin care, they aren’t a miracle compound to return your skin to its youth as soon as you use it.
What is in Olay Regenerist and What Does it Mean?
Lucky for us, Olay includes a list of ingredients so you know what you are getting before you purchase this product. Before we explain the good and the bad in this ingredient list, though, let’s take a second to look at what’s here so far as active ingredients:
● Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract
● Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5)
● Propylene Glycol
● Tocopheryl Acetate
● Vitamin B3
● Vitamin E
However, there is more than just these active ingredients to make the Olay Regenerist Serum work. Below we have listed the other ingredients that Olay lists you may want to know about before you make a decision on using Olay Regenerist Serum:
● Butylene Glycol
● Palmitoyl Pentapeptide - 4
● Tocopheryl Acetate
● Cetyl Ricinoleate
● BIS-PEG/PPG-14/14 Dimethicone
● PEG-10 Dimethicone
● PEG-100 Stearate
● PEG-Dimethicone Crosspolymer
● Disodium EDTA
● Citric Acid
Simply looking at a list of ingredients can be confusing, though, especially when they sometimes overlap and the lines between active and inactive ingredients are blurred. So, we are going to break it down for you between what ingredients you should appreciate and which ones you should be wary of.
First, let’s take a look at the good. Some of the best ingredients in the Olay Regenerist Serum formula are the vitamins. Vitamin E, Vitamin B3, and even Nacinamide are compatible with all skin types. They are especially helpful in an anti-aging formula to erase wrinkles and fine lines.
Allantoin is another active ingredient that, at face value, doesn’t mean much to the average user. It is just another large word on an ingredient label. However, it is actually a product used in many cosmetic products and improves the smoothness of your skin cells. This healing also helps with any wounds or dermatitis, making it a fantastic product for your skin.
However, not everything in this formula is good. Specifically, let’s take a look at Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, and Methylparaben. The common suffix you may notice there is paraben. We commonly try to avoid these - as you may notice shampoos and deodorants describing themselves as “paraben free” on commercials - thanks to its role in developments such as breast cancer and, for some, simple allergies.
Propylene Glycol is a synthetic compound that is found in products ranging from “e-liquids” in electronic cigarettes to pharmaceuticals such as diazepam. Propylene glycol is used mainly as a solvent for products that are otherwise insoluble in water. This compound is considered safe for human use, but can be toxic at high concentrations. Despite this, it is unlikely that you will encounter a situation in which propylene glycol toxicity is of concern.
However, to be fair, this is an FDA-approved cosmetic product. As such, it has been tested and found to contain a low and safe level of parabens so, it is unlikely to cause any health problems. The same is true for the Propylene Glycol as well. Since the FDA gave it the go-ahead, it is safe to assume that the levels of Propylene Glycol in the Olay Regenerist Serum are safe to use.
Another name in the active ingredients that you may not recognize is dimethicone. Unfortunately, there isn’t much good to say about this ingredient. It is silicone based, so it gives your skin a smooth texture but does so by creating a layer over your face, trapping any dirt or toxins underneath.
In addition, though, we have to look at not only what the dimethicone causes but what it is. While being often used in cosmetics and food, dimethicone is known to be harmful to not only the environment but to your body as well. In addition, scientists are currently unaware of if the human body is able to process dimethicone or if it just sits and accumulates in your body.
Is Olay Regenerist Serum Expensive?
One of Olay’s biggest selling points is that it is easier to get and cheaper than other options. Rather than having to special order from Olay’s website, you can go into most of your local grocery stores or pharmacies and pick up a jar to get started on your new routine.
So far as price goes, the Olay Regenerist Serum has found a nice balance. While the price isn’t so low that they can’t afford to produce a quality face cream for you, it isn’t outrageously expensive either. You will get a quality beyond the price you pay. For example, this product
Regimen Recommendations from Olay
While we may be focusing on the Olay Regenerist Serum, it is important to consider the regimen that is recommended to go with this. As with many cosmetic products, you should use the Olay Regenerist Serum in tandem with other products to ensure the best results. Olay has set out a beauty regimen for you to follow that we will go over.
First, they suggest that you use a cleanser on your face. To stay in the Olay Regenerist line, you should use their Regenerist Regenerating Cream Cleanser. This will rid your face of any dirt that could be locked onto and into your skin after the next step.
The second step is to moisturize. This is where the Olay Regenerist Serum that we have been focusing on is used. To use it, simply rub it onto your neck and face and allow it to absorb into your skin. You can use this more than once a day as needed to moisturize. Olay even suggests using it under makeup, though, we will discuss the effectiveness of that later.
Finally, you need to treat specific areas. For this step, Olay recommends that you look into their Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Eye Cream and Lash Serum Duo. This should help you to have long, healthy lashes and rid you of dark circles and crow’s feet.
The obvious question comes next; is this regimen necessary? Well, using these products together can definitely amplify results but the Olay Regenerist Serum can be used on its own as well. If you are already using other anti-aging products, you can continue to use them instead. However, we would like to warn you that these products are made to work together and working across brand lines can be difficult to make work. So, while it is possible to create your own regimen, be prepared for a period of trial and error to find what works for you.
Tips to Achieve the Best Results
When you are trying to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, you shouldn’t rely on one beauty product alone. Much like getting healthy, reducing the appearance of wrinkles requires total commitment. You cannot simply use the product and expect amazing results. In order to maximize your results, you have to also care for your skin in all other areas of life. Simply put, you need to make a total life change in your beauty habits in order to truly maximize your results. In order to make this transition easier, we have included the main ways in which you can change your lifestyle to promote the healthiest, most radiant skin possible.
You should begin drinking the appropriate amount of water per day. Most people do not drink the amount of water they should per day, and it takes a toll on all areas of health. Not only will proper hydration make you feel more energized, it will also plump skin cells and cleanse the body of impurities.
On this same train of thought, you should also decrease your caffeine and alcohol consumption. Everyone wants a strong cup of coffee to help get them through the work day, but it could actually be doing more harm than good. These beverages can dehydrate you and drastically worsen the appearance of fines lines or wrinkles.
In addition to proper hydration, you should also improve your sleeping habits. Most adults require about seven to eight hours of sleep per night, yet many of us don’t actually meet that quota. Because sleep deprivation causes decreased blood flow to the skin surrounding the face, it can increase the risk of developing fine lines or wrinkles.
Not only should you be taking care of your skin from the inside, you should also be protecting it from the outside. Time spent under the sun can promote fines lines as they contain both UVA and UVB rays. In order to combat this, you should apply sunscreen whenever you are going to spend time outside.
Olay Regenerist Serum: The Good
There are several good traits that Olay Regenerist Serum boasts. After all, the Olay Regenerist line didn’t get popular just on the hype and promise of their marketing. So, before we go into some of the downsides of Olay Regenerist Serum, let’s take a moment to be fair and look at what the Olay Regenerist Serum has to offer.
First of all, this is perfect for any skin type. Whether you have normal skin, dry skin, or oily skin, you should be able to reap the benefits of the Olay Regenerist Serum. This serum is also made for everyday use, allowing you faster results and the ability to fall into an easy routine of use.
Most women found it fantastic for use as a foundation primer as well. Not only did it help to keep their makeup in place but it worked wonders to keep their skin hydrated with makeup on all day. It is fantastic for the damage control that we do with other, less beneficial cosmetic products every day.
The Olay Regenerist Serum is also readily available to you. While you may need to order some cosmetic products off the Internet - Proactiv, for example - the Olay Regenerist Serum can be purchased much easier. Even with a quick run to your local pharmacy, you can probably find it on the shelf, waiting to be added to your routine.
On the topic of the actual purchase, you won’t have to spend an arm and a leg on it either. Unlike other high-end cosmetic products, Olay strives to provide quality at an affordable price. As such, you will be able to find and purchase your new Olay Regenerist Serum without having to pay the same price that you would for a treatment by a dermatologist.
As we went over, the Olay Regenerist Serum formula also includes an impressive amount of vitamins including Vitamin B3, Vitamin E, and Niacinamide - all of which are fantastic for hydrating your skin and preventing the effects of aging.
Olay Regenerist Serum: The Bad
However, not everything about Olay and Olay Regenerist Serum is good. Just like anything else, the other side of this coin needs to be flipped and analyzed to give it a fair review. While this may be a less glamourous side to a jar promising us our youth back, ignoring it would be unfair to ourselves as well as negligent to what your skin needs.
First, let’s take a look at the main concern as to Olay as a company. Through the years, they haven’t shied away from animal testing. There have been many times that we have found that Olay tried our favorite products’ failed attempts on animals even as other companies moved away from this method. How important this is to you, though, is a decision you must make for yourself. We mention it here, though, as it is largely frowned upon and considered a corporate form of animal abuse.
As we mentioned above, though, there is the addition of parabens to Olay Regenerist Serum that can be concerning. Fortunately, the FDA has deemed this concentration of parabens low enough to not be dangerous to the average user. Unfortunately, if you are allergic, you should still steer clear of Olay Regenerist and other Olay products containing parabens.
Dermatologists’ Reviews on Olay Regenerist
Dermatologists seem equally as impressed as their patients with the quality of Olay Regenerist products. They find that they show promising results in the end. With the cheaper price that they offer compared to high-end cosmetic products, many dermatologists said that the results they saw customers receive were outstanding. For the price and results, many dermatologists have said they would recommend this product to their clients.
However, this didn’t entirely erase the worries about some of the more concerning ingredients in Olay’s Regenerist formula. While they concede that the concentration levels in this formula do comply with the FDA’s standards. On the other hand, they do remind their patients to not overuse these products so that the concentrations can’t build up to negatively affect you.
Customers’ Reviews on Olay Regenerist
When determining whether or not to take the plunge and purchase a beauty product, most of us look to the reviews left by other customers to see its worth it. The Olay website boasts over 120 reviews and 99% of those reviews give the product a five star rating. Its reasonable to expect the reviews on their website to give a high satisfaction rating, so you should take that with a grain of salt.
Despite this, the customer reviews for Olay Regenerist on other websites, such as Ulta or Amazon, also give the product a remarkable high satisfaction rating. Most customers stated that the product worked well for improving the fine lines and wrinkles on their face. Additionally, most customers also stated that Olay Regenerist had a quick absorption time and left the feeling that they did not even have a product on their face. This corroborates Olay’s promises that the product would be quick to absorb and would not leave the skin greasy.
By comparison to some other beauty products that they used, these customers were rather impressed with what they got. There were, of course, some complaints.
However, for the most part, these complaints were caused by a personal reaction or aversion to the Olay Regenerist Serum.
Conclusion: Is It Worth It?
We have gone over a lot of information at this point. So, what does it boil it down to; is the Olay Regenerist Serum worth the time and money? There are, as we have looked at, some drawbacks to consider. From problems specific to the product such as the use of parabens and harmful chemicals to company-wide problems such as animal testing, Olay is not the perfect product.
Further, we have pointed out that it isn’t the “miracle cream” that it seems to advertise itself as. However, we have noted many positives about this product. It is easy to get, more budget friendly than other options, and both dermatologists and customers seem impressed with the results.
Our Olay Regenerist Recommendation:
In the end, though, we can’t drag Olay’s name through the mud completely. It may have its flaws but every product has a few.
After its all said and done, Olay Regenerist Serum gives user younger and healthier skin so long as they are patient enough to give it time to work.
